(PAST EVENT) Line the Streets for #ClimateActNow
Time & Location
About the Event
LINE THE STREETS NEAR PARLIAMENT HOUSE, CANBERRA
FROM 7-9AM, 9 November
- Wear blue
- Bring your friends, families, signs
- Line the streets, overpasses, bridges, (safely and legally) on the way to Parliament House so politicians are greeted by us the morning of the bill's introduction.
On 9 November, Zali Steggall will be introducing a Climate Change Act to Parliament.
The Peoples Climate Assembly (PCA) supports this bill, and we'd love your help to show support and demand our politicians back the bill.
We'll be lining the access roads to Parliament House from early in the morning (where there is safe pedestrian access) to ensure politicians know we're serious about climate action. State Circle, Kings Ave, Melb Ave, etc - we will coordinate within the event.
From 9am, we will gather back on Parliament House lawns - more info to come.
This bill is really just a start, and will, at minimum, ensure Australia is brought into line with the Paris Agreement.
We believe more needs to be done and much faster. As Climate Council CEO, Amanda McKenzie states “The bill is more conservative than the climate change legislation we need right now. We must reach net-zero emissions well before 2040, 2050 is way too late.”
But after the catastrophic summer we have just experienced and no sign the government is planning any meaningful response to tackling the climate crisis, we support this - and we will do it loudly. Change needs to happen and it needs to start NOW.
Please share and invite. We hope to see you there.
